EXPLORING STYLE AND FASHION IN SOUTH AFRICA

Something about South Africa has always spoken to me - from the energetic dance moves of the Zulu culture, to the the powerful resistance against racial oppression - South Africans have a unique perspective that they are not afraid to express, all while staying true to themselves.

Most recently, I have been intrigued by the up-and-coming fashion industry in South Africa, which now boasts its own fashion week. I am particularly inspired by the way it maintains South African culture at its foundation while taking in European and traditional African style influences. In my own work, I like to call this process making my own soup. Taking elements of many different pieces and combining them into one new, unique style is difficult to successfully achieve, but it is so important for evolution and expression.
