Even though I am not a working architect these days, I am still deeply inspired by architectural design, history, and process. I've always found it fascinating and sad that certain architectural styles are so widely recognizable - fascinating because of the promise and beauty and story they tell, sad because the African voice is missing unless you really seek it out. Grand Bassam, in Ivory coast, is a beautiful example of what can be. I choose this city as my final these project, to express my point, when I was a student, back in 2007. Traditional African roots combined with the French influence to create a widely recognized presence in the world - a place that has meaning, culture and connection for the people of this city and beyond.
